Bouquets and brickbats
I APPLAUD Twiggy Forrest for giving $400 million for philanthropic pursuits in Australia. Then Malcolm Turnbull stands up and says this is fantastic news, while at the same time our international aid relief, has been slashed to its lowest levels by his government. The man is a hypocrite, and does not deserve to win the next election.

Manus agony
CONDITIONS for asylum seekers on Manus Island, already harsh, have deteriorated rapidly in the past week. Documented evidence, kept secret, shows that managers of the Manus detention centre have deliberately made conditions yet more hostile with the aim of driving refugees to return to the places they fled from. Asylum seekers on Manus Island face a very uncertain future. Mental illness and depression affect almost all of them because of the dangerous and inhumane conditions and the stress of long-term detention with no end in sight. It's time to make our voices heard to right the cruel injustice of this situation.

University of Tasmania
TWO interesting articles in the paper in the last few days. It is rumoured that the University vice chancellor, who is the driving force behind relocation the Northern Campus to Inveresk, may be poached by Adelaide University. The other article regarding climate change and the areas prone to rising water. One area is Inveresk where the new University may end up rather like Noah's ark. It is already swampy but could become underwater. At least the Newnham Campus is above what is predicted. Another reason not to relocate.

Protected species
NEWS filtering out suggesting the Turnbull government has done a swifty and eased off the protected species listing and habitat protection zone around the proposed Adani mine indicates how obsessed he is with coal and Adani. He is breaking federal and state environmental laws for this vain glorious goal of coal.
