Running across two separate shows on Friday and Saturday night, We Will Rock You will combine the sure-fire entertainment of a music quiz with performances from a Pete Cornelius-fronted six-piece and a handful of surprise performers from the Bicheno Primary School community.
Cornelius will be joined by several other special guests including ABC Radio presenter Penny Terry, who will host the evening, and Launceston based production specialists VJam who will manage sound and stage production.
Quiz organiser Nick Wardlaw said the event, which will raise funds for both the school and the Little Penguins Child Care Centre, would draw on elements from popular TV shows RocKwiz and Spicks and Specks.
“Four contestants will be selected from the crowd at the start of the show and they'll become part of the quiz,” Mr Wardlaw said.
“There'll be audience participation throughout the night with the chance to win prizes but I’ve promised that they don't have to sing because a lot of people are very worried they're going to have to get up and sing.”
Mr Wardlaw said organisers had aimed to foster a laid-back, social atmosphere at the event.
“There's 10 or 12 songs throughout the show so there's lots of activity, people can get up and have a dance and a good time.
“We're not having theatre seating, it's going to be just casual seating, so it'll be like a big night club really where people can just sit and mingle and talk.”
Music lovers have been urged not to wait until the night to secure tickets, with both shows nearing capacity crowds.
“Ticket sales have been going really well we've got about 100 people going both nights already so it's going to be a big crowd.
“I think the maximum in the hall is about 125 so we're getting close to being full.”
The licensed 18-plus show will run from 7.30pm til midnight both nights.
Tickets are $25 and available from the school and Bicheno Penguin Tours.
