Hanging on the walls of Gallery Pejean, Weitnauer’s exhibition Connected approached landscapes from a range of perspectives and interpretations, adding an intriguing depth to each piece.
From representation to abstract, the work was highlighted by delicate use of bright colours, subtly offsetting the natural, earthy tones.
“Colours that I introduce are from what I’ve seen in the landscape or what I’ve felt was present, it is sort of a subconscious way of painting,” Weitnauer said.
“I don’t to force things too much I try to let things evolve,” he said.
Using familiar locations, Weitnauer attempts to draw on individual perceptions and observation through his work by focusing on something within a landscape which people may not have noticed.
“I am not trying to copy an image out of a landscape, I use my own memory of experience so it is very important for me to go out and see places,” Weitnauer said.
“I believe when a painting resonates with the viewer there is not only a sense of connection with the image but also with the artist and his attempt of sharing an experience.”
Connected will be on display until August 6.
