With Scottsdale having shown a strong appetite for bringing the heat in the NTFA competition so far this season, the club’s social committee tasked itself with achieving the same goal off the field on Saturday with the club’s inaugural winter festival.

After the Magpies raced to a thumping win against Hillwood, a healthy crowd gathered at the clubrooms to ring in the cooler months with a selection of food vans, kids activities and live entertainment.
Scottsdale Football Club social committee member Lauren Carter said the festival had been conceived earlier in the year as a way to strengthen connections within the community.
“Footy clubs are a bit like the heart of a community so we thought we could bring families and people who haven't been to the club for a while back to the club,” Miss Carter said.
“The footy club are travelling really well on the field so we thought we could try and match that off the field.”
Miss Carter said the committee was thrilled with the turnout for the festival’s debut instalment, with more than 200 sticking around after the senior match.
“We just thought instead of trying to get away from the cold we'd try and embrace winter a little bit, get everyone out and about and embrace the fact that it's freezing.
“We would have been happy with 100 people but it looks like we've got well over the 200 mark so we're pretty happy with that.
“After the football finished we had a lot of families coming in all rugged up with beanies and scarves and just enjoying the night.”
The success of the night has led the committee to consider returning the festival for next season, while a Northern performer will likely be called back after striking a chord with festival goers.
“We had a young Launceston girl called Sophie Bodell who was our live entertainment for the night and she's been amazing.
“She's a really fantastic acoustic artist so we're really impressed with the way she's set the vibe for the occasion.”
Miss Carter thanked Scottsdale Football Club, Cottage Bakery, Dorset Transport and Lords Hotel for their contributions to the event.
