The 5km Waub's Bay swim was cut to 3km midway through the event, with Bicheno and Scamander surf club members informing swimmers of the changes mid-swim.
"They did a magnificent job, it was really challenging out there for them," Mr Symons said.
"They had 40 people in the water they were responsible for and everyone felt safe and looked after so it was really good."
The 1km and 2km events went off without a hitch as the weather eased off throughout the day.
Mr Symons thanked Bicheno Surf and Dare To Tri for providing prizes, as well as a team of local volunteers who helped out on the day.
