Duncan Fairley and Tamara Jago have been appointed to fill the two vacant magistrate positions.
Attorney-General Vanessa Goodwin said Mr Fairley and Ms Jago are eminently qualified for the positions, with both having extensive legal experience.
``Their appointments mean the North-West will now have three full-time magistrates working across the Burnie and Devonport Magistrates courts,'' Ms Goodwin said.
``Mr Fairley held roles with two firms in Ulverstone and Devonport and started his own practice in 2013, covering a range of legal matters including personal injury, commercial litigation, administrative appeals, criminal law and coronial inquests.
``He has held roles with the Tasmanian Bar Association, Mental Health Tribunal, and Legal Profession Board of Tasmania.
``Ms Jago is a highly regarded criminal lawyer with over 20 years’ experience.
``She has served as Commissioner at the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania (LACT) since 2007, having also fulfilled roles with LACT as a legal practitioner, in-house counsel and Criminal Law manager since 2000.''
Mr Fairley and Ms Jago will commence their roles on February 22 and 29 respectively.
