Scottsdale withstood tough competition at the St Leonards Athletic Centre and finished top in the aggregate shield with 1286 points, clinching promotion to next year’s division 1 carnival.
Brooks High School finished just 85 points behind.
St Helens won the junior shield with 617 points but were unable to replicate the same form in the senior shield and finished up in third overall.
Scottsdale won the senior shield and Brooks finished second in both divisions.
Association executive officer Andrew McCarthy said that he was pleased with the high standard of competition, which included St Helens’ Amy Duke setting a record for the grade 8 girls’ discus at 22.56 metres and Cressy’s Isaac Chugg recording an 11.17-metre triple jump record for grade 7 boys.
``The weather started off to be a bit threatening but it fined up to be a really nice, warm day,’’ he said.
``It was close between Scottsdale and Brooks all day - Brooks were the big improvers this year, they really went well.’’
