After reaching the highest monthly level ever during November last year, new home approvals in December 2014 were 8.8 per cent higher across the country than the same time the previous year, the Housing Industry Association revealed yesterday.
Although there was an 8.3 per cent drop in new home approvals in Tasmania, mainland states such as NSW saw a rise of almost 27 per cent.
In just two days Ms Davy and Mr Reynolds will get the keys for their new home at Hadspen after months of hard work.
Tired of renting, the couple took advantage of the state government’s First Home Builders Boost $30,000 grant and began to build their first home together.

‘‘We can choose the location, we can design it to suit our needs,’’ Ms Davy said.
‘‘We just liked being able to put our personal touch on it, that’s why we did it.
‘‘We had enough savings so we were over the line so it would have been a silly opportunity to miss.’’
HIA economist Geordan Murray said residential building was among the top performers in Australia’s major industries last year.
