Budget 2014: Additional funding for prisons

The state government will provide  $4.7 million in additional funding for the Tasmanian Prison Service in the 2014-15 Budget to meet a shortfall identified in a review.

The budget also contains $8 million for the completion of the Risdon Prison redevelopment and $350,000 in infrastructure spending for the Launceston Reception Prison.

A decision on the future of the Ashley Youth Detention Centre, currently subject to review, was not contained in the budget.

The budget also saw a small increase in fines and court costs.
