Police say they are investigating the "serious family violence incident" that allegedly occurred between a 29-year-old man and his wife at their house in Newnham.
Police and ambulance were called to the address by the woman just after 9.30pm last night after she made a 000 call.
Detective Inspector Scott Flude said police found the woman in the bedroom with knife wounds and bruising to her neck.
She was taken to the LGH for treatment, where she underwent surgery this morning and is now listed in a stable condition.
Detective Inspector Scott Flude said police arrested the man at the house without further incident.
“Investigations are continuing and the man remains in police custody,” Detective Inspector Flude said.
