Anne Street Medical Centre GPs Dr Tim Mooney and Dr Brian Bowring have been carefully nurturing and tending to their moustaches for about 40 years apiece.
Earlier this year, they were roped into annual fund-raising event, Movember.
Centre effort co-ordinator Adam Renwick said a pact was made for the male GPs at the George Town clinic to all let their moustaches run free for November, and shave them off at the end of the month - including Dr Mooney and Dr Bowring.
That fatal shave saw the centre raise about $25,000 for the Movember cause, which raises money for prostate and testicular cancer research and other men's health issues.
Dr Renwick said they initially set a fund-raising target of $10,000.
"We thought we'd keep it reasonably achievable," he said.
What happened next was overwhelming - the centre was flooded with donations from every pocket of the town.
"We had kids donating their pocket money, little old ladies handing us the loose change from their handbags - the whole community got involved," Dr Renwick said.
