The Parks and Wildlife Service is routinely reviewing its national park entry and camping fees and the Break O'Day Council has written to the department seeking clarification about any planned changes.
People can camp for free at popular places on the East Coast like Policemans Point, Cosy Corner and at Swimcart Beach.
A state government representative said the department reviewed its fees and charges every two years and if required, adjustments were made in line with the Consumer Price Index.
"The last review and changes to fees occurred in 2010. No decision has yet been made about the fees," the representative said.
Mayor Sarah Schmerl said the free camping areas were a drawcard to the region and that a fee could potentially be a turn-off for people who have been camping in the conservation area for generations.
"They bring a lot of tourist here throughout the summer months," Cr Schmerl said.
"But as a council we would also like to see infrastructure improved."
