Meetings called for Fingal fire

FIRE information meetings will be held at St Marys tonight and Bicheno tomorrow to update residents on the 1500-hectare bushfire burning out of control near Fingal.

The fire is burning within State Forest and the Douglas Apsley National Park approximately nine kilometres west of the Tasman Highway and 14 kilometres south-east of Fingal.

The blaze is not contained.

Although smoke is visible in many areas, there is no immediate threat to communities.

No roads are closed, however motorists are asked to drive to the conditions with their head lights on due to smoke across the Tasman Highway.

The Douglas Apsley National Park and all walking tracks within the park have been closed.

A meeting will be held at 7pm tonight at the St Marys Hall, in Main Street, St Marys, to update residents on the fire situation.

A meeting will also be held at Bicheno at 2pm tomorrow at the Memorial Hall in Burgess Street.

Tasmania Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife, Forestry Tasmania and local council members will be on hand to answer any community queries.

If you live in the area of the fire, stay informed in case conditions change by monitoring ABC Local Radio and the TFS Website for further information.
