Ms Bladel entered state parliament in 1986 as part of the Labor opposition and served until 2002.
Prior to a career in politics, she worked as a cleaner and a barmaid before earning her university qualifications to become a high school teacher.
As a member of cabinet when Labor came to power in 1989, Ms Bladel was a minister for the status of women, administrative services, consumer affairs, and construction.
She served as secretary to cabinet in the Bacon government.
Ms Bladel was inducted to the Tasmanian Honour Roll for Women in 2006 for service to government, education and the community.
Tasmanian Labor leader Rebecca White said Ms Bladel was a trailblazer for women and a lifelong advocate for the disadvantaged.
"I and the Labor family extend our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones," she said.
