Tasmania Police say the man was arrested in Launceston on July 27 however charges are yet to be laid.
A multi-agency search operation near Nabowla uncovered human remains on July 26 and crime scenes were declared there and at a property at Scottsdale.
These are yet to be linked to the missing 14-year-old, and Northern District Commander Kate Chambers said forensic tests were likely to take up to one week.
"As I have said previously, we will not rest until we have answers," Commander Chambers said.
"This latest development is hopefully another step toward having those answers.
"Our investigators, and all those involved in this process so far, have worked tirelessly to try and find closure for Shyanne-Lee's family and her loved ones.
"We will continue those efforts until we are satisfied we have provided that closure."
The man remains in custody, and further details are expected later on July 27.
