Jackson Callow has been a regular feature of Hawthorn's VFL side this season with the key forward registering one goal from 10 disposals in the side's 43-point win over Sandringham.
The Hawks' VFL coach Andy Otten said there were improvements in the 19-year-old's game in the side's first win of the season.
"Callow played forward for the whole game. We'd been using him as a ruck previously, but this week we wanted to give him a full game up forward," he said.
"He had more energy and speed, which was highlighted by some of his efforts putting pressure on the opposition. I've asked him to have a bit faster feet and react really fast in the forward line, and he was able to do that.
"He is still a young key forward developing his leading patterns and habits, but Sunday's game was another step in the right direction."
Callow has experienced a mixed-bag to start the year after being one of the Hawks' better players in their opening round loss before a quiet game in round two.
The key forward joined the Hawks via the mid-season draft last year with pick 17 after impressive displays in the SANFL with Norwood and gaining his stripes at North Launceston.
Prior to joining the Hawks in the mid-season draft, Callow had trained with the side during the 2021 pre-season.
The Hawks recognised Callow's improvements in the second-half of last year with a one-year deal to the end of the 2022 season.
