The Bureau of Meteorology advised snow was forecast to fall as low as 200 metres on Sunday and into Monday, particularly in the south of the state.
Icy, sleet-like showers, small hail and wind gusts reaching 70-80km/h are also expected.
Temperatures have already been below average in Tasmania over the past week, and cold conditions look set to continue until the middle of next week.
Bushwalkers have been advised of potentially hazardous conditions in the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts, and sheep graziers have been warned of the risk of livestock exposed to these conditions.

Temperatures have already been below average in Tasmania this week and although the bureau said snow to low levels was unusual at this time of year, it is not unprecedented.
Conditions are set to gradually ease throughout Monday, but wet weather is expected to return at the end of the week, with rain and light winds predicted.
