Launceston Chamber of Commerce president Andrew Pitt said in an email to chamber members and the business community that Mr Peach had been on sick leave the past few weeks, moving through the diagnostic process.
"We learnt earlier this week that he has an aggressive and inoperable cancer. We are all devastated," he said.
Mr Peach has been the chamber's executive officer since August 2020, moving from Sydney during the pandemic to take on the role.
Mr Pitt said his colleague had described the role as his dream job and what he was made for.
"Over the last 15 months he has proven this in many ways," he said.
"Although it has been too short a time in Launceston, he has made a significant positive impact on Launceston and the chamber community. His resignation is a massive loss to the chamber and to the city."
Will Cassidy has been appointed to the role of acting executive officer.
