Tasmanian homeless shelters turn away people 18,400 times in a year, data shows

While the number of "turn aways" at homeless shelters in Launceston dropped in 2020/21, there was a surge in demand in the state's South - particularly at women's shelters.

Homeless shelters in Tasmania turned away people seeking emergency accommodation 18,400 times in the last financial year, an increase of over 3000 from the previous 12 months.
