A timeless tale of love, loss and everything between will take centre stage from Friday in Scenes from Metamorphoses at the Earl Arts Centre.

Presented by the Launceston Youth Theatre Ensemble senior company and directed by Amanda Phillips, the production offers a light-hearted exploration of the enchanting and heartbreaking world of Greek mythology.
Written and originally directed by Mary Zimmerman, LYTE's production of Scenes from Metamorphoses explores the beautiful mess of humanity, in a fractured landscape centred around a body of water.
Featuring a cast of about 30 young performers, lead chorus member Jessica Mahnken said the whimsical production was unlike anything the company had performed before.
"It's more sophisticated. Definitely the language is very, very mature," she said.
"I think a lot of the people who will be coming - our older viewers - will definitely appreciate that.
"It's definitely a step up for everyone, because it feels like we've all grown into that role. I think this play is something that we all needed."
The ensemble, made up of students from grade 7 through to 12, came together for a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, ahead of opening night on Friday.
With Launceston once again abuzz with live productions, Mieke Burch - who plays the role of Aphrodite - said Scenes from Metamorphoses perfectly encapsulated what it means to be human.
"There is something exhilarating about taking on something new and being a new person. It's a whole new world," she said.
"Like reading a book and getting transported to a whole new world - I love that. I love being able to step into someone else's shoes.
"There has been such a build up to this performance actually going ahead. Now that we are all in costume, everyone has stepped up.
"You get from the floor to here, and instantly in costumes everyone knows it's real. It's nerve-racking, but exciting."
Artistic director Jane Johnson said the company felt blessed to be back on stage.
Scenes from Metamorphoses is showing at the Earl Arts Centre on Friday at 6pm, and Saturday at 11am and 6pm.
