American born, David Stephenson of Hobart was the winner of this year's Hadley's Art Prize for his landscape of Bradey's Lake in central Tasmania.
The judging panel said they were drawn to the colours and patterns in Stephenson's entry which consisted of over 2000 time-lapsed images taken on the first day of 2021.
Stephenson said he was grateful to have enjoyed a life in art, and winning the prize inspired him to continue working into the future.
"Winning such a significant prize is an amazing affirmation of my work that will help sustain my practice well into the future," he said.

Of the 720 entrants for this year's prize, 33 finalists were selected from across the country with 12 coming from Tasmania - including Chee Yong, of Launceston, and Philip Wolfhatn, of Longford.
Franklin artist Martin Rek was also one of the awards finalists and the only Tasmanian to receive an honourable mention for his landscape entry.
This year's award coincided with the inaugural Hadley's Residency Prize awarded to South Australian artist Peta Kruger who will spend one month in Tasmania next year as part of the residency.
