Tasmania JackJumpers have landed their second American Josh, with point guard Josh Magette joining Josh Adams on the roster.
Signing a one-year deal, the 31-year-old has recently been a member of the USA Select team, which helped the national side prepare for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Magette played 26 regular-season NBA games for the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic from 2017 to 2020, honing his craft for Darafaka in the Turkish Basketball Super League last season.
An NBA G-League all-star in 2017 as well as a second-team member in 2017 and 2020, Magette will add another country to his growing list when he debuts for the JackJumpers, having played in Turkey, the Netherlands, America, Greece, Croatia and Spain.
Fellow American, JackJumpers coach Scott Roth, had high praise for the 185cm guard, comparing him to an NBA legend.
"Josh has been a target of mine for a while and I'm so excited to have him with us," he said.
"I was fortunate to play with NBA legend John Stockton in Utah and Josh has lots of traits that reminds me of John.
"Playing the point guard position, Josh will provide the JackJumpers with great leadership and brings a team first attitude to the court.
"He is one of the smartest players I have seen, and his high IQ makes him a terrific passer and a player his teammates will love."
Magette returned the favour, complimenting Roth and his vision for JackJumpers' inaugural season.
"I've always kept a close eye on the NBL during my career and the growth the league has had recently has been tremendous," he said.
"To be joining the league on a brand new team in the JackJumpers is so exciting and it's an honour to play a role in establishing a healthy and winning culture in Tasmania.
"After hearing about the strong vision Scott has for the JackJumpers, I knew it was a journey I wanted to be on. I can't wait to get to Tasmania and get to work."
