While there had been no reported injuries, police were attending a number of crashes at Lake St Clair and Tarraleah.
Snowfalls as low as 300 to 400 metres saw the North-West Coast, the West, Central Plateau and the Upper Derwent Valley the most hard hit by the weather, and alerts were issued for eight roads across those regions.
Tasmania Police advised motorists of the weather alerts on Sunday morning.
They said snow clearing had commenced on Lake Secondary Road and Poatina Main Road, meaning travel along those roads was open to 4WD only.
Similarly, Lake Secondary Road from Hunterston to Miena, the Lyell Highway from Wayatinah to Queenstown, and the totality of Lake St Clair Track and the Marlborough Highway/SR were also listed as being accessible only by 4WD.
Lake Dobson Track in the South West was deemed accessible by 4WDs and regular cars with chains.
The snow was expected to abate from such low levels as early as Sunday afternoon, subsiding to heights of 700 metres by Monday.
