Tragedy has struck on Tasmania's roads with the death of a man from the greater Launceston area this morning.

Emergency services were called to the single car crash about 4.45am in the Mt Direction area, however, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the 57-year-old man's white Mazda utility veered off Old Bangor Tram Road and hit a tree about one kilometre east of the Dalrymple Road intersection.
"Initial enquiries indicate that speed may have been a contributing factor," Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
He was the only person involved in the accident.
Old Bangor Tram Road remains closed while investigations continue.
The police spokesperson said they are in the process of notifying the man's family.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
