The AFL on Tuesday confirmed that despite Melbourne's latest COVID-19 outbreak, the visit by the Oakleigh Chargers to the North-West Coast to face the Tasmania Devils was at this stage still set to be played, but that was the extent of the information shared.
The league said it wasn't in a position as of yet to provide an update on the fixture's status, or the status of the round, but would "advise when we're in a position to do so".
A round of the NAB League Girls competition was postponed in February when Victoria went into five-day lockdown, an indication there could be the flexibility to do the same if needed in the boys' competition.
Saturday's game is set to be the return to the region for the Devils' boys team after COVID-19 wiped out the 2020 season.
The Devils defeated Calder Cannons in their only appearance at the venue in 2019, in what was also their first home fixture in the competition.
Cameron Joyce's side is coming off a strong 53-point win against NT Thunder on Sunday, where Coastal talent Jonty McIvor kicked four goals, while Darcy Gardner collected 27 disposals.
The Devils sit in fifth spot on the ladder with Oakleigh in sixth spot.
The Chargers have the highly touted Nick Daicos on its list, the son of Collingwood great Peter and brother of Josh.
Melbourne's COVID numbers from its latest outbreak reached nine on Tuesday afternoon.
