Hobart Chamber Orchestra stun Launceston crowd and promise to return

Featuring violins and string arrangements, the audiences was enraptured from start to finish as the orchestra delivered several stirring renditions set against the backdrop of St John's Anglican Church.

After the performance, Mr Tanfield said he had loved performing in Launceston and wanted to return at a later date for more performances.

"I've always wanted to do more, I am just delighted we've done this because that means there is a precedent and everyone can realise how do-able this is and there's a lovely audience," he said

"I love the architecture in Launceston, I love the north, this is a magnificent church.

"I actually want to do a recital series with piano and violin and virtuoso music at various venues around Launceston."

Mr Tanfield believes that classical music can find an audience in the north as evidenced by the strong turnout at The Versatile Virtuoso.

"I have this real feeling that classical music isn't available enough, it's wonderful music, there's all sorts of music and it's wonderful to bring it to the people," he said.

The crowd at St John's Anglican Church was diverse full of young and old, all enjoying the moving performance by Mr Tanfield and the orchestra.

"I really deeply in my heart reverently desire that classical music should be for everyone, it's there for everyone," he said.

"It shouldn't be a niche market thing, it isn't a niche market thing."
