Vietnam veteran John Chenery attended the dawn service alongside his 8-year-old son Adam.
Mr Chenery served for 12 years as a member of the air force, flying Hercules aircraft.
He served Australia in both Vietnam and Malaysia.
COVID-19 forced the cancellation of formal Anzac Day services during 2020 - but that didn't stop Mr Chenery from taking Adam to Launceston's Cenotaph at dawn.
"I was here last year, laying the wreath," Mr Chenery said.
Mr Chenery said it was special to see people returning, after services last year were cancelled.

"It's brilliant to see people here - Adam has been coming to services since he was 6, so it's now his third".
Adam said he was wearing his great-grandfather's medals, who served in World War I.
The sound of the Last Post rang out across Launceston, marking the incredible sacrifices made by those in our armed forces.
