Just 13 points separated the pair when Luke Graham nailed a beauty midway through the second term, but the next nine majors went Launceston's way.
Kingborough had to make do with the consolation of two late goals to Tom Wright and a second-term Elijah Reardon hanger as the Blues ran out comfortable 17.9 (111) to 5.12 (42) winners.
Jay Blackberry and Jake Hinds continued where they left off in round one - both amassing three goals and 31 touches - while Dylan Riley (four) and Jack Donnellan (three) were also prolific on a day where Launceston's goalkickers all snagged multiples.
Blues coach Mitch Thorp said the win had been harder going than the scoreboard suggested.
"We certainly had to work for it," he said.
"We looked like a team that had just had a bye to be honest and the Tigers, to their credit, started the game particularly well.
"They had a lot of inside 50s and Alec Wright was really important, he blunted a lot of their attacks.
"Having Jamieson [House] at full-back and Alec at centre half-back really straightens us up and he was really critical today."
A utility who kicked 29 goals as a forward in 2019, Wright looks set to play exclusively as a defender this season.
Another Blue making a new role his own was winger Brodie Palfreyman, who kept Tigers skipper Lachie Clifford to just 12 touches in a lock-down role.
"We planned to use [Palfreyman as a tagger] in round one but the opponent we had for him didn't play in the middle so we didn't get a chance to do it," Thorp said.
"We did it last year with Jared Dakin and it worked really well.
"Palf's played a lot in the midfield before so we sort of thought with Daks going out it's a good opportunity for Palf to get back into the midfield and play as a bit more of a balanced midfielder."

Miller Hodge looks set to miss at least a week after being knocked out in the third term, while fellow defender Jacob Boyd (knee) left the ground late in the game but should recover for next week's trip to North Hobart.
Backman Micah Reynolds was Kingborough's best.

PIES GET THE JOB DONE
In the early game, Glenorchy recorded its first points for the season with a 10.7 (67) to 5.11 (41) over Lauderdale.
Callen Daly starred for the hosts with four goals with Brayden Webb also among the goalkickers in his comeback game.
The Southern Bombers, who will be without star recruit Allen Christensen (hamstring) for up to two months, managed just one goal after half-time and sit second-bottom heading into next week's clash with North Launceston.
Paul Kennedy's Glenorchy is 1-1 ahead of a trip to Kingborough.
