A lifelong Meander Valley resident, a community prostate cancer fundraiser and a dart champion were all awarded in the Meander Valley Council's awards night.

Don Simpson, a local business owner for more than 30 years was recognised as citizen of the year for his contributions to the community - including being an enlisted serviceman with the Deloraine Army Reserve, and driving the local school bus for 35 years.
Purple 4 Prostate was awarded community event of the year, with the group raising more than $30,000 through auctions, sausage sizzles, markets and open days.
AUSTRALIA DAY 2021 IN NORTHERN TASMANIA:
Lachlan Gleeson received the sports award for his success playing darts, including representing Australia in 2019.
More than 20 volunteers were also recognised for their contributions, with the operators of Deloraine House receiving an exceptional service award for their work throughout the COVID-19 lockdown.
Mayor Wayne Johnston said the house expanded their services during the restriction period, while other similar support agencies were closing.
"The past year has been particularly challenging and I am humbled by the generosity, ingenuity and remarkable resilience demonstrated by community organisations and individual volunteers alike," he said.
"They are the reason Meander Valley has remained so connected."
