Tobias Pick, 27, was remanded in custody to appear in the Supreme Court in Launceston on April 26, 2021.
Mr Pick appeared via video link and entered his plea via defence counsel James Oxley.
He did not speak other than to acknowledge his name.
A count of stealing was adjourned indefinitely.
Mr Pick was charged with the alleged murder of a Launceston woman on Boxing Day.
He was charged with one count of murder, and one count of stealing, after 49-year-old Jingai Zhang was found dead.
