Keys2Drive is an already established federally funded program which offers a one-hour of free time with an instructor.
The state government on Tuesday announced it too would provide funding for a free hour for the state's learner drivers.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson said changes had been made to the state's graduated licencing system this year to include a distinction between a novice driver and a learner driver.
He said the change was intended to develop more experienced drivers attuned to differing conditions.
RACT general manager for driver education, Geoff Eyers, said learners were encouraged to book lessons over the summer school holidays.
"Drivers who have their licence and have been driving on their own for less than 12 months are the most at-risk group on our roads and are up to 30 times more likely to be injured in a crash than when they are on their L plates and driving with a licensed driver," he said.
