The first 2000 sleepers were donated on Monday, with more to be delivered on Tuesday to the group from TasRail.
In other news:
LNER vice-chairperson Clynton Brown said they would be used to replace unsuitable sleepers on the line from Lilydale to Turners Marsh.
"We had been asking TasRail for support and they offered these to us," he said.
"We want to upgrade the timber sleepers, as the metal ones have a longer lifespan."
He said they hoped to have the pedal-powered buggies on the track next year, after the line was approved by an engineer and rail regulators.
It's proposed four passengers will be able to operate their own rider along the four-kilometre section of the line, from Turners Marsh to Waddles Road, accompanied by a trained volunteer.
The aim is the buggies will share the section of the track with refurbished trains and operate at different times, alongside a rail village.
