Sights & Sounds will be rolled out across five weeks, beginning November 21. The program, run by Cityprom Launceston Central City, will bring community groups, street artists, entertainers, musicians, carols and more to the city.
Temporary speakers will be spread throughout Brisbane Street and Quadrant malls to fill the streets with carols and music.
Cityprom interim executive officer Amanda McEvoy said the response from people wanting to be involved was overwhelming.
In other news:
"We have added activities for the kids, supported the Sunshine Rotary Club with an empty shop windows art exhibition, have arranged some free charity giveaways and we can't wait to hear the music, smiles and cheer throughout the city over Christmas," she said.
In addition to the Christmas tree and decorations, Cityprom promises there will be a few more surprises along the way.
Local businesses have been encouraged to show Christmas spirit and take part in a window competition, with several prizes up for grabs.
Cityprom marketing manager Larissa Murray said the pandemic made them think outside the box this year.
"We are encouraging people to come into the city and put a smile on their faces as they shop locally this Christmas to keep our city thriving," she said.
