With both teams having recorded nine wins from 10 matches, a close contest was anticipated at Birch Avenue.
But Cameron Heazlewood's team hadn't read the script as Adilat Otto, Katie Hill, Dani Gunton, Elodie Grey and Jess Robinson shared the goals around in a one-sided encounter.
"I couldn't be prouder and it was terrific to have a big crowd behind us," Heazlewood said.
"We played very well to beat a team who has scored more than 100 goals this season and keep a clean sheet. They have only scored one in the two games against us."
With 10 wins and a draw so far and just three fixtures remaining, United have a genuine chance of completing the season undefeated.
Third-placed NORTHERN RANGERS kept up the chase with an 8-1 win at bottom-placed Ulverstone.
Inspired by her midweek feature in The Examiner, Emma Langley made more headlines with six goals as Febey Pearce and Shaina Finch completed the scoring.
RIVERSIDE OLYMPIC left it late before snatching a 2-0 win against LAUNCESTON CITY.
A largely uneventful 80 minutes was soon forgotten when Mia Findlay's 40-metre screamer and Meg Connolly's clinical finish secured the points.
NORTHERN RANGERS kept up the pressure in the men's Northern Championship but the title remains Devonport's to lose.
Rangers held up their end of the bargain with a comfortable 6-2 win in the third-versus-second encounter at Ulverstone.
Yitay Towns continued his goal-scoring spree with a brace which takes the NPL Victoria regular to 10 goals in four full games since returning home from the mainland.
Lachlan McCallumsmith also bagged a couple with Wes Chugg and Luke Eyles completing the rout.
However, LAUNCESTON UNITED weren't able to do their neighbours a favour, as Glenn Reading's fourth-placed side went down 2-0 at home to Strikers who remain four points clear of Rangers ahead of their summit meeting next weekend.
LAUNCESTON CITY coach Dan Smith sees a bright future for his side despite being denied victory by an injury-time penalty in an entertaining 3-3 draw at RIVERSIDE.
"We're like a yoyo side, some weeks we turn up, others we don't," he said.
"We're just not consistent enough, but hope to end the season on a high and take that momentum into next year."
Smith was among the scorers in a seesawing encounter in which Will Coert and Stefan Tantari traded delightful early strikes.
Smith and Lindsay Duncan had the visitors ahead deep into stoppage time before Rhys Kinslow stole a point with his second successful penalty conversion.
