One of Tasmania's World War II veterans has died, just days after receiving a medal commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Pacific.

Known as the oldest man in Ross, Bernard "Sandy" Harvey died on Monday after a battle with cancer.
The 98-year-old was farewelled on Friday and buried in the community he had lived in all his life, with a special acknowledgement from the Ross RSL.
His daughter Jan Harvey said her father would be remembered as a very proud Tasmanian.

"He had fought to hold on and get that medal, but he couldn't fight anymore," she said. "He was proud of Tasmania, of Ross and all his family here."
Sandy was 19 years old when he enlisted in World War II, going on to serve in Darwin.
Ms Harvey said her father had been heavily involved in the Ross RSL and was particularly proud of the town's war memorial.
His funeral service was livestreamed for family on the mainland who were unable to attend. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Patricia, their three children and three grandchildren.
