Hard work and strong will are what the family of Kath Hayes credit to to her longevity. On Wednesday five generations of Mrs Hayes' family came together to help celebrate her 100th birthday.

Born in Launceston on July 8, 1920, Mrs Hayes nee Millwood grew up at Patersonia.
After marrying Lance Hayes the couple spent some time on Flinders Island before returning to Launceston.
Here, she forged a career working at the Coats Patons wool mill where she worked until she was almost 70.

Daughter-in-law Lois Hayes said the past few months had been challenging amid COVID restrictions.
"If her birthday was a few months ago we wouldn't have been able to do this," she said.
"She couldn't have visitors and we couldn't ring her because she can't hear on the phone. So it's a big deal for everyone to see her."
