Tasmania as a whole had its wettest autumn since 1975, with total rainfall 24 per cent above average.
The Bureau of Meteorology's senior research scientist Andrew Marshall said the state had a very rainy autumn especially in the North and in Western and Eastern coastal areas.
"In fact it was Tasmania's wettest autumn since 1975, with some sites including Launceston and Ross having their wettest autumn on record," he said.
"And Scottsdale having its wettest autumn since 1989.
"We did have a few fronts and troughs passing over the state but also the oceans at the moment around Tasmania and much of Australia are warmer than normal right now so that's provided more moisture into the atmosphere which is combined with those fronts to bring some higher rainfall totals."

Dr Marshall said despite the state experiencing its wettest autumn since 1975, rainfall in May was below average in the state's east.
"For Tasmania as a whole, May rainfall was about 25 per cent below average which was the state's driest May since 2011," he said.
"Temperatures were generally close to average in most areas.
"There were some wet days though, regardless that it was drier on the average, Scotts Peak Dam in the south-west had its highest daily rainfall on record for May.
"It also Tasmania's overall coolest average temperature for autumn since 2015.
"Also Ouse had its coldest May day on record, reaching just 4.2 degrees celsius on the 26th."
The state's below average temperatures were thought to be caused by increased cloud cover resulting in reduced solar radiation to keep daytime temperatures down, but also reducing heat loss at night-time.
The state's hottest temperature in autumn was a 28.9 degrees celsius at Fingal on March 12.
In summary:
- Driest May since 2011 with below average rain for most of the eastern half of the state
- May's daytime temperatures close to average, night-time warmer than average
- Wettest autumn since 1975 for Tasmania as a whole
- Coolest autumn since 2015 for Tasmania overall
