IN OTHER NEWS:
A TFS crew managed to extinguish the fire before it caused any structural damage, but it caused extensive damage to the unit's contents.
"Fire and smoke damage inside the unit was mainly limited to the lounge and kitchen," Tasmania Police said in a statement.
Police kept guard at the scene overnight before fire investigators could arrive on Wednesday morning, when they confirmed the fire was deliberately lit.
The unit was behind two other units, near Normanstone Road.
A police update earlier stated the fire occurred on Wednesday, however this has since been clarified.
