Bureau of meteorology meteorologist Michael Laczko said today's sunny weather wouldn't last.
"A cold front is approaching Tasmania tonight and is expected to cross the state overnight and early tomorrow morning," he said.
"That is going to bring cold wet and windy conditions across the whole state with statewide showers."
He said the North and West of the state could expect 15-30 mm of rain on Saturday with another five to 15 mm expected elsewhere across the state.
Sunday is also expected to be wet with 15-25 mm of rain expected in the West and 10-20 mm expected in the North.
"This type of weather is fairly typical for autumn, winter or spring so it is not that unusual," Mr Laczko said.
"What is more unusual is that we haven't had any weather like this for the last month or so."
A moderate flood warning is still in place for South Esk River and a minor warning remains in place for the North Esk River.
A flood watch has also been enacted for catchments in the North-East and East Coast.
