Champions in 2016, City withdrew from both the Northern Championships and the WSL in 2019, leaving the club without a women's outfit for the first time.
But after four months of work and the help of Football Tasmania women's development officer Deb Banks, the Prospect-based outfit confirmed its return to competition on Wednesday night.

"Launceston City is proud to have a women's program back at the club," a statement on social media said.
"Not only to showcase the wonderful world of female football, but also continue to develop junior females through the club.
"It has been wonderful to see some of our under-16 and under-14 girls already training with the women's team since December."
The team will be coached by Barry Baker and Darren Cook and will hold a kit handover on March 15.
