Tasmania Turf Club chief executive Peter Scott said the day went really well with a big crowd rolling into the historic Longford racetrack.
"We reckon we've topped 4000 people attending, it's a wonderful place for a day out and a picnic," he said.
"The race has been running for well over 100 years - it really is an iconic event."

Mr Scott said it was the community spirit that helped establish the race as a yearly staple.
"It's the Longford community's day but people come from far and wide with lots of them from Hobart and the North West coming here," he said.
"It really is a statewide event but it's a pretty good effort for a small township to produce these kinds of numbers."
About 70 horses participated in races throughout the day, with Triple Strip taking the main race.
As per usual, the cup's best-dressed trotted to the runway for the always competitive fashions on the field.
Launceston's Trent Casey took home the men's best dressed, while Beth Butt, of Prospect, dazzled her way to first place in the women's.
"It's always been on my bucket list, I've always admired fashions on the field ... and I didn't trip which is good," Ms Butt said.
