The St Leonards Holy Family Catholic Church is moving to a site just south of Colebrook in the southern midlands to become part of a Benedictine monastery.
The Notre Dame Priory was founded in 2017 and began in a rented presbytery at Lindisfarne in the state's south.
The monastic community then settled in Colebrook, and later purchased a large farm in Colebrook called Hardwick House - formerly known as Jerusalem Estate.
They are now working toward the building of the state's first Benedictine monastery.
Eight co-joined dwellings will also be built on the site, with the development application approved by the Southern Midlands Council in August.
The units will be owned by CatholicCare as part of the Better Housing Futures Tasmania Program. Each unit would be one bedroom, one bathroom and an open plan kitchen and living area.
