Now in its 111th year, the Empty Stocking Appeal supports four Northern Tasmanian charities - Launceston City Mission, The Salvation Army, The Benevolent Society, and St Vincent de Paul.
Last year's appeal raised more than $88,000, and this year the aim is to hit the $90,000 mark.
NewsXpress George Town manager Sue Sherriff said they got behind this cause, and many others, as the community was so big-hearted.
"A lot of people here wouldn't go online to donate, but if they see the tin on the counter they put their change in," she said.
"The locals here really are just so big-hearted and generous."
How to donate
Donations can be made at The Examiner office on Cimitiere Street, or at businesses or to groups with an appeal tin.
Donations can also be made online.
