The chair of the House of Assembly select committee inquiry, Labor member for Franklin Alison Standen, told Parliament the inquiry would now report on November 28.
It was due to report on October 15.
The inquiry has held four public hearings and received 37 written submissions.
Ms Standen said the Committee was pleased that there has been a strong response to the call for submissions.
"Moving the reporting date back by six weeks strikes the balance of reporting this year but taking account of the range of evidence provided to the committee on housing affordability," Ms Standen said.
"The Committee has also agreed to seek further advice from the Housing Minister about the impact of the Commonwealth-State Housing Debt waiver and how this will change the supply of social housing."
