Recycling company TerraCycle and stationery stalwart BIC have partnered to make all brands of pens and markers completely recyclable through the Writing Instruments Recycling Program.
Launched in Australia this week, the program was tested in Europe, with 40 million pens diverted from landfills already.
IN OTHER WORDS:
Join the Writing Instruments Recycling Program by visiting terracycle.com/en-AU and start collecting used writing instruments in a cardboard box.
Once the box is full, download a shipping label from TerraCycle and drop the box off at Australia Post or Officeworks for recycling.
TerraCycle sorts, shreds and melts the plastic items down into pellets, which are used to build garden beds, park benches and playgrounds, general manager Jean Bailliard said.
"With the support of leading brands like BIC, we are able to teach both children and adults the value of recycling products they use every day at school or at work, that would otherwise end up in landfill," she said.
