A part of Theatre North's Grand Grumps poetry readings, odes to the late Grumpy Cat were read to an audience at the Hotel Grand Chancellor.
'Grumpy Cat' was the alias of a frumpy feline by the name of Tardar Sauce, whose notoriety for being in a constant state of prickliness [due to feline dwarfism] earned him worldwide fame in meme-form.
Unfortunately, Tardar Sauce passed away in early May.
Performer and curator for Grand Grumps Cameron Hindrum said Grumpy Cat was always going to be featured in the evening due to his catty temperament.
"It was a chance for us to memorialise this internet sensation and tie it into our theme of being grumpy," Hindrum said.
"We've tried to find pieces that fall into the spectrum or definition of 'grumpy'.
"Grumpy Cat is perhaps at one end that isn't quite a serious, and we have poems about religion and death at the other end."
In other news:
Hindrum and fellow thespians Yasmine Barrett and Michael Edgar took turns in presenting poetic recitals on things in life that make people grumpy.
Grand Grumps was part of a series named Grand Evenings: Cocktail Hour Poetry Series, the next installment of which will be in August.
