City went behind to a quality Olympia outfit at Prospect but Will Fleming equalised soon after half-time and the match was still in the balance late on.

With City pushing for a winner, the visitors regained the lead and sealed a 3-1 result in the last minute.

"We thought we might have given them a real shake-up on our pitch with a home crowd and we had our chances but the better side won," said City's head of coaching Roger Mies.

"They learned a lot from the cup run, especially that they have to be on top of their game every week which is what it will be like for them in the NPL."

Rangers also put up a strong fight before going down 3-2 after extra time at Beachside. Vince Wolfhagen and Solomon Roach scored their goals.

In the Lakoseljac Cup, Devonport kept alive hopes of a Tasmanian double with a narrow 2-1 win at University.

Rangers won 4-0 at Burnie but coach Rod Fulton said the game was harder than the score makes it sound.

"They were really up for it and made us work really hard," he said.

Two goals from Rob Gerrard, one a penalty, were complemented by strikes from Wes Chugg and Joe McCormack.

Launceston United's third straight emphatic win was a 5-1 defeat of stuttering Somerset at Birch Avenue.
