Health Minister Michael Ferguson said he had a "positive" meeting with Australasian College for Emergency Medicine president Simon Judkins about bed access.
"We have agreed to co-host an access block solutions meeting in mid-June, while getting all the key facts, key people and a shared commitment to work with our teams to get better results for our patients," he said.
"This meeting has been brought forward to June, and will require significant work to prepare all the vital information and bring together expert contributors to ensure we get the right advice."
Dr Judkins said the college had been outspoken about the need for action around staffing levels and increased bed capacity in wards of all hospitals across Tasmania.
"ACEM is mindful that creating capacity on the wards is partly about funding, but also about the adoption of effective, efficient and safe practices which have worked in other hospitals across the country," he said.
"The health service needs to continue to look a models of care and patient flow which have been implemented across other parts of the country and see how they can impact the situation in Hobart.
"The key is creating inpatient hospital capacity through a combination of investing in more physical beds but also in innovative process which have worked in other hospitals.
"The answers lie outside the emergency department."
Dr Judkins said changes needed to be made "immediately"and must include hospital clinical and inpatient leaders.
"Without their engagement, leadership and ideas, we will see more patients dying waiting for care," he said.
Labor's health spokeswoman Sarah Lovell said Mr Ferguson should be sacked.
"Once again Minister Ferguson has been forced to act. This meeting was going to happen in spite of him, not because of him," she said.
"Tasmanians need to know what outcomes will come from these meetings. Just more talk from this Minister is not good enough."
