But this month, the Nude Nuts are the heroes of the company. 

The eight men have raised over $16,000 for the Leukemia Foundation, by taking part in the World's Greatest Shave. 

They easily surpassed their initial goal of $10,000, with employees across the state putting their hands up to take part. 

Nude Nut Adam Willis said there were different-looking faces at TasRail since they all underwent the shave last week.

"It's been quite significant for quite a few of us," he said. 

"Peter [Standaloft]'s wife hasn't seen him without his beard for 30 years, Adrian Hickman had a big beard, like a bushranger beard, for 20 plus years. 

"Kevin [Lawrence] donated an eyebrow." 

One Nude Nut - Paul Hancock, from TasRail Burnie - committed to doing whatever it took to fundraise for the cause. 

He even waxed his chest and livestreamed the experience on Facebook. 

But it paid off - Mr Hancock is the highest individual fundraiser in Tasmania, raising $6000 on his own.  

"The bravest - or maybe the craziest - was definitely Paul," Mr Willis said.

Their fundraising included lawn bowls organised by employee Annie Collings, a sausage sizzle, and a raffle.

For the team, the support from the community has been "overwhelming", Mr Willis said. 

Although Nude Nut Peter Standaloft had no doubt who had made the biggest sacrifice for the cause. 

"Another group that we should thank are our families and wives," he said. 

"They've supported us right through it - and now they've got to look at us." 

The Nude Nuts all congregated together for the first time with their heads shaved on March 15, at TasRail's Techno Drive office, before heading to the hospital to visit former colleague Bruce Gilham.

Mr Gilham was diagnosed with blood cancer after 40 years with TasRail, and is currently undergoing treatment.
