The trail will run from Blue Tier at Poimena to Swimcart Beach at the Bay of Fires.
International trail builders World Trail will construct the project, which was started on Thursday.
Mayor Mick Tucker said it was exciting to be able to finally see the trail being constructed.
World Trail director Glen Jacobs will oversee the project and said it would certainly be a unique trail, not just for Tasmania, but the world.
“There aren’t any trails I know of that end right at the beach,” Mr Jacobs said. “And not just any beach, but one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Liberal senator Jonathon Duniam said the trail would boost employment and drive visitation to the local area.
The trail is expected to take about 12 to 18 months to build, cost about $4 million and include a number of trails.
